Vision Statement

To provide a rich and rigorous educational curriculum that will prepare students for successful future learning and life endeavors. To establish the Queen Anne’s County Public School System as a leader in innovative educational approaches and provide a model to encourage the founding of other Classical Public Charter schools throughout the Eastern Shore of Maryland and throughout the State. By maintaining our commitment over the coming years in school leadership we will bring to our school community more successful and dedicated individuals with varied expertise.

Mission Statement

The Queen Anne’s Classical Charter School (QACCS) mission is to create an educational environment in grades K-8, where students can develop a love of learning and have the tools to pursue independent learning in their future education and throughout their lives. Employing a classical education approach, students will receive a rigorous and content-rich education in liberal arts and sciences and the study of Latin and Spanish. Students will gain a solid understanding of the principal ideas and history of western civilization, and the foundational principles of our nation, as set forth in the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution.

Classical Education Framework

QACCS will utilize the Trivium model of classical education to provide students the learning tools for gaining and utilizing knowledge. The three parts are Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric. Grammar consists of phonics-based reading, cursive writing, and language arts, and core subjects of mathematics, history, science, and literature; Logic refers to logical, critical thinking - asking good questions about a subject to better understand it. In other words, asking questions prefaced with “why” and “how” rather than “what.” Rhetoric, which will be taught in grades 9-12, teaches verbal and written expression of thematic knowledge and fact-based argument and persuasion. History and literature will be a part of each element of the Trivium. Students will also learn the fine arts, Spanish and Latin languages, and physical education. Instruction will be based upon objective standards of correctness, logic, and truth.

Remediation of Learning Losses

Particular attention will be given to addressing the learning losses of students that resulted from, among other things, prolonged school closures.

Parental Involvement

Parental involvement is a core element of school philosophy. Parents will be represented on advisory boards and committees dealing with, among other matters, curriculum and textbooks. Parent consent will be required for teacher and school-initiated extracurricular activities.
